Description
1986 Gibson SG Standard Heritage Cherry (with Tim Shaw Pickups)
Up for sale, an incredible 1986 Gibson SG Standard in Heritage Cherry, from the very first year of the new Gibson USA ownership after the Norlin era.
it is all original with the sole exception of the case. It has the solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck, a DARK Rosewood fretboard, and 24 3/4 inch scale typical of the SG Standard, and it still carries its factory Tim Shaw humbucker pickups, highly regarded by players and collectors for its tone, they sound genuinely great in this guitar.
The original wiring harness, original frets, and original Grover Rotomatic tuners are all still in place, nothing has been swapped or upgraded anywhere on the guitar.
Condition is Very Good+ with clear evidence of big Mojo, there are no cracks and no repairs of any kind, and the guitar shows honest, consistent play wear throughout, some small dings, light surface marks, and a nice natural patina that comes from decades of actual use rather than abuse.
The original frets do show some wear from playing but still have plenty of life left in them. It weighs in at 7.4 pounds, which is nicely light even for an SG.
The only thing not original to the guitar is the case, it comes with an older Epiphone hard case.
It was just restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario nickel strings and plays really well all the way up the neck.
It ships out professionally packed and fully insured to Continental US and select International destinations.
