1985 Fender American Vintage ’62 Jazz Bass (AV62) Seafood Green

Up for sale, here’s an incredible and very hard to find 1985 Fender AV62 Jazz Bass in Seafood Green, an early assembled Corona instrument with all Fullerton reissue parts.

Why is this so special? In early 1985 CBS sold the company to Fender Musical Instruments Corporation and shut down its Fullerton facility, and until October that year (where the Corona plant was officially opened) Fender barely did no produce instruments in the US with a few exception of instruments made with leftover parts from the Fullerton factory. As you can see, neck date is June 1985, Therefore, technically this is transition to Corona instrument however in reality this is exactly as any Fullerton reissue instrument, you can definitely tell by the curves on the body and neck (these made at the Fullerton factory are different from the later ones made at Corona) and the hardware as well (electronics dated ’82).

Check all the photos and the Video by the very last photo (Video will be. uploaded soon). We can provide more photos, audios or videos upon request through the message area.

The Instrument including with its rare custom color finish is all original in Very Good condition with the exception of the case. There’s definitely play wear (see the wear on the back of the neck by frets 3 -5). As usual on these instrument, it’s lightweight (9.0 Lbs)

The neck on this (unlike many newer reissues) has a sweet slim 1960s profile with .790″ neck thickness at 1st fret, typical 1.5″ nut width, 7.25″ radius slab fretboard and reverse tuners. Dated on the neck 6-11-85. Pots dates 28th week of ’82, pickups have barely visible dated nut original for sure. Frets seems to be original and have been dressed very nicely. It plays really well thought the whole neck. Currently set with very low action with a fresh set of D’addario .45 – .100″.

The Seafood Green has beautifully aged fading into more greenish, with a 3-ply white (yellowed) pickguard and rosewood fingerboard with the 2 stack knobs are a killer combination.

The instrument has been definitely used, has patina and play wear all over (decal logo has wear too, but still present and original) and all these definitely adds a lot of Mojo. Because of the thin nitro cellulose lacquer finish you can see lots of checking and discoloration area, something that you can never replicate or relic that well. The instrument plays amazingly well, it definitely sounds as close to any early ’60s Jazz Bass, in our opinion even closer than many Fender Custom Shops.

We never got its original case nor case candy (covers seem to never been installed) on this, however the bass came with a really cool 1980’s custom fitted black tolex hard case that matches really well with the instrument and serves well the purpose.

It will be professionally packed, shipped & insured to continental US only. Free local pickup in LA is also welcome.
