Description
1965 Fender Jazz Bass Lake Placid Blue Refin (L-Series) – 8.4 Lbs
Up for sale, here’s an incredible vintage (not a reissue) 1965 Jazz Bass in a stunning, aged Lake Placid Blue with Matching headstock. The body and just the front of the headstock have been professionally refinished several decades ago. The entire neck including the back of the headstock has its original nitro lacquer finish with the typical checking and discoloration over the back of the neck, evidence from years of honest play wear.
Extremely Lightweight at 8.4 lbs. 7 SEPT 65 C mark on the neck, Neck plate serial L46XXX (which is normal for early CBS instruments retaining still ’64 parts and Serial # from the original pre-CBS years). Everything appears to be all original with the exception of the refinished bod and matching headstock with a new decal logo. This is a typical transitional 1965 Jazz Bass that still retain many pre-CBS era features such as L series neck plate, darker rosewood fingerboard, reverse tuners, unbound neck with pearl dots and a slim neck profile (0.85″ neck thickness at 1st fret, 0/97″ at 12th fret with 1/5″ nut width) and a No logo original black tolex hard case.
Frets appears to be original as they show moderate wear, allowing low action and playing throughout the whole fretboard evenly without any issues. The Neck is perfectly straight, with truss rod functioning both ways. It’s been professionally set and strung with D’addario Nickel round wound. The bass really plays like adream.

An amazing example of a ’60s golden era Jazz Bass with all the incredible sound you can expect.. Original grey bottom pickups that are super punchy. Pots remain perfect, all matched and dated 42nd week of ’66 with its original orange capacitor. Besides the re finished body there is no mods, no re routings whatsoever.
The Lake Placid Blue nitrocellulose lacquer finish combined with the White pickguard (which is in excellent condition, without any cracks) creates a stunning combination. The refin appears to be made decades ago and it’s seems like it’s been naturally relic’d. You can also see the different tone when you remove the pickguard and neck plate due to been exposed to the environment for decades, which is something you can commonly find on any original finish Lake Placid Blue, and depending on the light or angle it can be seeing more blueish or greenish.
The instrument comes with its Original pickup and bridge covers, thumbrest and its original Fender black tolex hard case (which is in very good condition all latches work great).
This is a great opportunity to own a real mid ’60s Jazz Bass at an affordable price tag (same instruments with all original custom color finish go over twice the price, check for yourself).
It’ll be professionally packed and fully insured to Continental US only. Local pickup in LA is also available at no cost.
