1965 Fender Jazz Bass Black (L-Series) Refin w/OSHC

Up for sale, early CBS-era Jazz Bass dating to May 1965, confirmed by the neck stamp reading 7 MAY 65, carrying serial L72XXX on its original L-plate. Despite sitting right at the CBS transition, this bass retained all of its key Pre-CBS L-Series appointments: Real Tortoise Shell Celluloid pickguard, dark Brazilian Rosewood veneer fretboard, pearl dot inlays, original bridge, tuners, string tree, and bone nut.

The body was refinished in Black, a job done several decades ago, and paired with its original Tortoise Shell pickguard that makes for a genuinely stunning combination. The refin has aged honestly: the right amount of patina, consistent with the neck which still retains its original worn, aged finish and original hardware. Everything seems to be all original and period correct, with the exception of the body refinish, a newer period correct waterslide decal logo and a repro thumb rest. Other than that seems original to the bass.

The neck is to die for. Original finish with the classic worn area on the back, 1.49″ nut width, 7.25″ radius, 0.76″ thickness at the 1st fret and 0.97″ at the 12th, a profile that plays as good as it feels. Pots and pickups are both dated ’65, truss rod works flawlessly in both directions, and original frets still have good life ahead. Note: pickup covers are missing. There are zero extra routes or modifications anywhere on the instrument.

Comes with its original Black Tolex hardcase with Fender logo in excellent condition, all latches working, springs still strong. This is a great opportunity to get a real deal mid ’60s Jazz Bass mostly original at a reasonable price.
