Vintage 1965 – 1966 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass Sunburst w/OSHC

Up for sale, a beautiful original 1966 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass, from the golden-era that defined the Hofner sound. These mid-’60s models (1965–66) are prized for their craftsmanship, tone, and the rare 511 “Staple” pickups with height adjustment, making them highly collectible.

This one stands out from the majority since there’s no neck reset, having the right geometry and low, comfortable action across the board. It’s also professionally set up with old flatwounds, delivering that smooth, warm Hofner feel, recording-ready.

All parts are original except for a newer German-made Hofner HA2B-PC wiring control panel with still its original control plate and and Teacup knobs. The original Staple pickups are sounding massive and they deliver that unmistakable, warm “pillowy” Hofner tone we all love.

Cosmetically, it wears its original Sunburst finish with graceful checking and light patina, just the right vintage vibe. Minor play marks and some extra tiny filled holes from the reset (barely noticeable). Structurally rock solid with no cracks whatsoever.

The raised Hofner logo and all binding, bridge, tuners, nut, strap buttons, and pickguard are clean and original. Includes its original hard case with velvet interior, in great shape for its age and there’s even the original purchase receipt in the case.
