1964 Fender Precision Bass Sonic Blue Pre-CBS

Up for sale, here’s an incredible vintage 1964 Precision Bass, a killer players bass.
It has a body refinished by Fiesta Finishes, a Professional refinish job with no relic.

8.1Lbs (featherweight and perfectly balanced).

Check all the photos and the Video by the very last photo. I can provide more photos, audios or videos upon request through the message area.

An amazing example of a vintage ’64 P-Bass with all the mojo and specs you can only find on the pre-CBS instruments at a fraction of the price tag. Besides the re finished body, all parts appears to be original and period correct with the exception of the pickup, which is from another 1966 Precision (see photos) and the bone nut.

The Sonic Blue nitrocellulose lacquer finish along with its nitrocellulose tortoise shell (in excellent condition, no cracks) has a texturized pattern that you can only see on these years, making a stunning combination.

The neck is something else, it comes with a dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard with clay dots. Its finish is all original and has the typical worn in the back throughout years of playing which makes it very smooth to play. The “C” profile is slim and wide, measuring a neck thickness at 1st fret .790″, nut width is 1.72″. Nut has been replaced for a new bone nut that works perfect. It comes as expected with reverse tuners, string tree and the hootenanny on the back of the headstock. Frets have normal wear although the bass plays evenly across all the fretboard without any dead spots, and have still plenty of life left. Truss rod works as it should both ways.

L-Series neck plate (L33XXX). Neck stamp shows 5JUN64C. Pots are both dated 50th week of ’64, with its original orange drop capacitor and jack.

The body is super lightweight and has no re-routings nor modifications.

The bass comes with its original black tolex hard case, which is in very good condition for its age (all latches working and a replacement handle makes it all functional), it comes with its original bridge cover (no pickup cover unfortunately) and a thumbrest that appears to be a repro.

This is a great opportunity to own a real ’60s Precision Bass at an affordable price tag (same instruments with all original custom color finish go over $20k, check for yourself).

It’ll be professionally packed and fully insured to Continental US only. Local pickup in LA is also available at no cost.
