Up for sale is a truly special Fender Makeover, a hand-curated recreation of a 1960 Precision Bass that we approached with the same philosophy and care we apply to our vintage instruments. This bass began life as an American Vintage II 1960 Precision Bass, but from there, we set out to elevate it to Custom Shop level and beyond, outsourcing only the best possible components and finishing details. The entire build was inspired directly by one of our original in-house 1960–61 slab board Precision Basses, making this a faithful recreation rather than just a parts build. Very lightweight at 8 Lbs even, just like a real deal early ’60s P should.

We carefully sourced an original Fender American Vintage II 1960 Precision Bass neck, finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, with a beautiful slab rosewood board, bone nut, and outfitted it with Gotoh Res-O-Lite aged nickel tuners and string tree. This neck feels just like an early ’60s Slab board P: Wide and thin, resonant, lightweight, and remarkably close in character to early slab Precisions we’ve handled over the years.

We paired it with an MJT lightweight alder body (4 Lbs 6 Oz) in a stunning, aged Sonic Blue finish. The lacquer has natural checking and a tasteful moderate relic that truly looks and feels like an early-’60s body that’s been played, loved, and aged gracefully.

• Pickups & Wiring: Tone Emporium ’65 split-coil pickup with base ground shield, paired with a Legend Tone pre-wired harness built to early-’60s specs, featuring CTS pots, an era-correct capacitor, and Witchcraft input jack
• Pickguard: Fender American Vintage White
• Knobs: Genuine Fender originals, salvaged from a 1966 Precision Bass.
• Hardware: Dunlop strap locks, Fender original neck plate
• Case: Brand new Fender Deluxe Molded Hard Case in mint condition

This bass delivers the look, tone, and feel of an authentic early ’60s slab board Precision, yet with an affordable price. We’ve compared it against our original instruments from the era, and the similarity is uncanny, makes this bass much more than the sum of its parts. It feels and sounds like it could have rolled straight off the line in Fullerton in 1960.
