An amazing example of the 2nd generation of the Telecaster Bass, based on the original version of the Precision Bass (’51 to ’57 and had a design closer to the Telecaster guitar) but in its run with the massive humbucker pickup. These were at the time the response to all Gibson basses, well known for their punch and mojo.
Weighting at 10.9 lbs, which is average for an Ash body instrument form these years, however it’s pretty well balanced. The Blonde finish combined with the original 3-ply white pickguard and the pickup cover creates a stunning combination.
The neck is great, a massive all Maple neck with a great flame and the typical skunk stripe .Its finish has the typical checking/patina and wear in the back throughout years of playing which makes it very smooth to play. It’s definitely a medium/chumnky neck profile (0.850″ Neck thickness at 1st fret and .950″ at 12th fret). Nut width is 1.61″. Frets appears to be original as they show moderate wear, allowing low action and playing throughout the whole fretboard evenly without any dead spots. The truss rod functioning both ways. It’s been professionally set and strung with a round wound set of D’addario Nickel. The bass really plays amazingly well.
The instrument comes with its original thumbrest and an early 70s Victoria (Same brand used to make the original Fender cases, in fact is exactly like the original but with a blue interior instead and no outside logo) black tolex hard case, which is in very good condition and functional despite some normal wear from its age.
This is a great opportunity to own a real early ’70s Telecaster Bass at a competitive price tag.
It’ll be professionally packed and fully insured to Continental US only. Local pickup in LA is also available at no cost.
