Description
1971 Ampeg B-15N Blue Line 2-Channel 30-Watt 1×15″ (Altec 421A) Bass Combo
Up for sale, an incredible Ampeg B-15N Portaflex combo amp made in Linden. NJ in 1971. This one came originally with the Altec 421A, which at the time was an optional request, much better than the conventional CTS speaker.
The Blue line was introduced in 1968 and while still remains the same circuit form the earlier ’60s blue tolex, the Blue line has the dual two inputs, which is useful for bridging both channels in parallel. The Serial # is 13344, Speaker serial number shows 1971. Since the early days the B-15 has become the holy grail of the Bass amps for studio use. This is the father of the SVT Blue line, it’s essentially a smaller version of it, with the advantage of getting a rich warm tone at very low volumes.
It has moderate wear and patina on the chasis and tolex (only a few minor rips here and there) but still pretty well preserved and fully functional, sounding amazingly well as it’s supposed to be. The blue grille cloth seems to be replaced for a new one and it looks stunning. The original 4 wheel trolley is in great condition. The only changes through the years are the tubes, it’s been recapped, a fresh redone cone speaker using the same period correct components (this is what you’d expect from a +50 year old speaker), a 3-prong power cord and standard 1/4″ Plug connectors not he head and cabinet for easy and reliable studio purpose (you can either use the head with any speaker cab, or you can use any amp with the cab). The amp is in perfect working order and ready to serve well for years.
As you can imagine, Local pickup in LA is much preferred. Although i can ship it out to Continental US
