1963 Fender Precision Bass 3-Tone Sunburst with Blonde Tolex Case

Up for sale, here’s a wonderful 100% Original Vintage Pre-CBS Fender Precision in a truly classic 3-Tone sunburst. Listed at a rather competitive price. This is the ultimate Holly Grail of the Bass. A one owner instrument that was purchased brand new in early 1964 in LA.

5 SEP 63 C stamped on the neck, L-Series Neckplate L20XXX, Pots dated 50th week of ’63, pickup cavity marked with pencil 12/63, Black bottom pickups. A stunning original 3-Tone Sunburst Nitro cellulose finish, those that everybody including Fender seems almost impossible to recreate nowadays because of its unique way they did the black, red and clear coat. The owner of this bass was a working player and you can clearly see the bass had been a workhorse for decades, yes real relic…Although it’s still in all original and in fully working order. Solder joints are untouched, electronics, knobs, bridge, tuners, string tree, bone nut, strap locks, hootenanny, covers, pickguard, hard case, everything is unquestionable and in perfect condition. The nitrocellulose tortoise shell pickguard is one of those you can only find on pre-CBS era instruments and it’s in excellent shape without any cracks.

The neck, OMG! A beautiful piece of Maple and a gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with clay dots. Slim to medium neck profile (0.820″ Neck thickness at 1st fret and .990″ at 12th fret). Not the slimmest neck however I feel like it’s still on the slimmer side. Nut width is 1.73″. Original Fender decal logo. The original, thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish makes it totally smooth to play. Original frets shows moderate wear, and allows playing throughout the whole fretboard evenly without any dead spots. The Neck is perfectly straight, with truss rod fully functioning both ways (see photos the truss rod nut is now adjusted perfectly and there’s still room for adjusting). It’s been professionally set and strung with a fresh set of D’addario Chromes flatwotunds.

It comes with its original blonde tolex hard case (which is in very good condition for its age, the latches have their springs fully functional which is rare).
