Description
1959 Kay Thin Twin Bass K162
Up for sale is a real vintage 1959 Kay Thin Twin Bass K162, not a reissue. This is a classic semi-hollow Thin Twin offered here as a player’s grade instrument, priced accordingly and meant to be played.
The bass is all original with the exception of a body and neck refinish in natural. It retains all of its original components, including the body, neck, original lipstick pickup, electronics, capacitors, and the original high and low pass switch. The pots show no visible date codes, which is typical for the period, but they are original. The original waffle tuners, nut, bridge, and tailpiece are all present.
The neck has been reset, and a discreet bolt was added for extra stability. This is barely noticeable and does not affect playability. The bass plays great with low action and has just been strung with a fresh set of LaBella White Tapewounds. It is a really fun, lively bass with tons of vintage character.
Cosmetically, the Kay logo is missing from the headstock, and the refinish places this firmly in player-grade territory. Structurally, the instrument is solid and fully functional.
Ships in a gig bag.
A genuine late 1950s Kay Thin Twin Bass, priced low, full of mojo, and a far better option than modern reissues for players looking for the real thing.
It ships out to Continental US and select international destinations.
