1980 Vantage VS-650 Natural Matsumoku MIJ All Original w/OHSC

Up for sale is an incredibly well-preserved 1980 Vantage VS-650 in its original Natural finish, made in Japan by the legendary Matsumoku factory. This is from the golden era of Japanese craftsmanship, and this example is about as clean as they come.

This instrument is 100% original, down to the electronics, hardware, and finish, and it even includes its original hardshell case, also in excellent condition.

The VS-650 was Vantage’s take on a deluxe double-cut, carved top guitar, drawing clear inspiration from late-’70s Gibson design. It features a solid ash body with Maple Center Block and Walnut Stripes, 3-piece maple neck and Rosewood fretboard with set Bolt on construction, and two powerful humbucking pickups that are often referred to as Japanese “T-Top style” pickups. These deliver a clear, punchy and articulate tone that calls back to classic Gibson humbuckers from the same era.

This example was made in 1980, with the serial number confirming its production during the golden Matsumoku years. Also, It features the original set of humbuckers wired to a 3-way toggle with independent volume and tone controls for each pickup and Coil tap switch. The guitar retains all original hardware and electronics, with no changes or modifications.

It has been extremely well cared for over the years and is in excellent to near-mint condition with only minimal signs of use. It’s been professionally set and it plays great all the way.
